It's Ok Thursday and Advocare Update

Linking up again for It's Ok Thursday!
Its Ok Thursdays
It's Ok.... That I just cleaned my house OCD style because I have a showing tomorrow and am hoping my cleaning skills get it done! Hello desperate, Nice to meet you!

That Marcus and I haven't listened to anything besides fun.
Best.CD.EVER! Go buy it, don't know who they are?? Google them, amazon them, whatever, just listen to them!

That I drove on some scary roads yesterday to get to work just because the thought of staying home one more day was like someone cutting off one of my fingers.

That my transmission is going out...f**k s&%t f**k. Oh and my laptop too. Everything always goes at once doesn't it?

I haven't done a real workout since Monday. I figure on the cleanse I am eating so well it is not going to kill me but there are only a couple months left till summer. I need some pretty arms and abs lol

Update on the cleanse: I feel AMAZING!! I am sleeping like a baby, have energy and haven't been dragging all week! I am halfway there and already I am starting to get used to eating all these veggies! I do miss the wine though! I did cheat a tiny bit...with these They are soo good and healthy so I guess it wasn't too much cheating. These are replacing my hot cheeto habit!!

Happy Friday to me!! Sorry for the rest of you;)

Sweet Potato Scrambled Eggs/ Day 3 of the Advocare Cleanse

Starting the Advocare Cleanse was rough.  I mean seriously no sugar or wine for ten days??  I wasn't sure I could make it past Day 1 without killing someone.  I did it and have slept better the last two nights than I have in two years.  I couldn't have asked for anything more.  I didn't do this cleanse for the weight loss because I don't need to lose anything more but to change my taste buds and SLEEP!  I'm not gonna lie that bread on my counter has been calling my name and everyday I have to tell it to shut the hell up.

I am way too cheap frugal to not follow through with this cleanse.  That would be 40 dollars down the drain and I would have a heart attack.  Do you know how much wine I could have bought with that?:)

Anyway I thought I would share what I've been eating for my meals:

Breakfast:
Steel Cut Oatmeal with Cinnamon
Blueberries
Walnuts
Scrambled egg whites with sweet potato (see below)
Kale-In my eggs

Snacks:
Brown Rice Cakes with Peanut Butter or Almond Butter
Apple with Peanut Butter or Almond Butter
Walnuts
Almonds
Grapefruit
Banana
Blueberries
Boiled Egg

Lunch:
Chicken or Turkey
Quinoa
Brown Rice
Veggies-any kind
Black Beans
Salad
Carrots
Celery
Sweet Potato

Dinner:
Chicken or Turkey
Salad-Lots and lots of salad
Salsa for dressing
Carrots
Celery

*You aren't really supposed to eat carbs for dinner during the cleanse so I have been only eating them at breakfast and lunch.

*I have been getting creative with my spices and with mixing all of this stuff up.  I don't want to get bored or will turn to bread...or wine....or pasta.

Drink LOTS of water and chew sugar free gum if needed, it really is helpful and the water helps the headaches!

Now to the sweet potato scrambled eggs:

Yes I know it sounds weird but even Marcus liked them!  They were really good, especially for not having any milk or salt.

Sweet Potato Scrambled Eggs

1/4 Cup of Pureed Sweet Potatoes
5 egg whites-I used egg beaters
1 Tbsp Paprika
1 Tbsp Pepper
1 Tbsp Onion Powder

Whisk it all together and scramble those eggs.  They don't look pretty but they taste pretty lol OK that was weird!

Everything tastes better on a Denver Bronco Plate;)

Stay tuned for some more ridiculously healthy recipes.  I may just use them even after the cleanse!

Slow Cooked Mexican Turkey

When I decided to start the Advocare cleanse I knew I would have to come up with some new recipes that didn't include anything I'm not supposed to have. We took a little trip to sprouts and found some turkey breast filet's and I knew I could make something yummy out of that!

Slow Cooked Mexican Turkey

2 Large Turkey Breast Filet's-You can also use chicken
2 Roma Tomatoes-Cut up
1 Tbsp Lime Juice
1 Tbsp Chili Powder
1 Tbsp Garlic Powder
1 Tbsp Onion Powder
1 tsp Cumin
1 tsp Oregano
You can also use low sodium taco seasoning in this!

Put the lime juice in, turkey, tomatoes and then spices.  Let it cook on low for four hours!

I cut it up toward the end into bite sized pieces.  I have been putting this over quinoa, brown rice or black beans.  Definitely delish!

Weekend Update and 5 for Five

Hello everyone! Hope your weekend was great!

Today we will start with 5 for Five or Failure is what I would call it this week!

Last Week:
1.I have a 5 day weekend every other week and am usually bored out of my mind so I need to start getting crafty. I was before Christmas but then got a little worn out.  Speaking of crafty...You need to check out Tanya from twelveOeight.  She is seriously my crafting idol!! -FAIL-I didn't do anything crafty this week and was even stuck at home most of the week. Several people have been telling me I need to sell the scarfs I made everyone for Christmas, maybe I should get on that before it gets warm!

2. Stay off of Instagram, Pinterest and Blogger for 24 12 hours....24 is asking a lot.  I think I can I think I can.  My floors might be super clean and I might be on my hands and knees with a toothbrush to keep me busy but hey whatever works.-Another FAIL-I might have stayed off for four hours while I was sleeping...have to start somewhere right??!  I can't help being bored all the time!

3.  Back to clean eating. I am going to try my hardest!! I did one!! lol I started my cleanse and did a lot of food prep this week!

4.  Blog a new recipe every week and my meal prepping I do every Tuesday.  I feel like I need to share it with the world.  Healthy eating is easy when you plan ahead. Ok I did two!! Pumpkin Oatmeal and Gluten Free Turkey Sweet Potato Meatballs yum yum!! Good thing I can't eat them for 9 more days haha

5. Keep on keepin on with the C25k. -FAIL--Well kind of.  I made it to the gym once to run on the treadmill but did my own thing.  I can't follow the C25k anymore...BORING!

On to this week:

1. Replace the baseboards in Marcus' bathroom....they are gross and look really bad.  I am going to be a badass handy man one of these days!!

2. Get to Lowes, Habitat for Humanity and the fabric store for some craft stuff. Baby steps right?? If I buy the stuff at least I will have it in the house and maybe get it done...maybe. Now if only the snow would stop so I can get to those stores grrrr

3. Keep going with my cleanse.  Day 2 and I'm feeling good!  Keep those hot cheetos and pizza away from me!!! Only 9 1/2 days to go.....

4. Think of some blog ideas.  The link ups are fun but I should probably come up with some better things!

5. Read two books.  Here I go again...I can do it, I hope!

Now on to the weekend!

Friday I finally made it to work, thank goodness!  Being trapped at home is torture.  I know people pray for snow days but I don't.

That night my friend and I decided to have our own Valentine's dinner with our kids and my niece.  5 kids and they all spent the night ahhhhh!  I was one cranky mama the next day because they all kept me up ALL night long!  We still had a good time though.

My niece fell in love with one of her sons and wouldn't quit kissing him lol A hussie at 16 months...god help her mom haha
She cracks me up!

The good thing about having her all weekend is that she NEVER stops but I didn't have to workout because she kept me busy!

Saturday was my grandma's birthday and we went out to eat.  My Grandma was so cute in a mini sombrero.  Too bad I failed as a blogger and didn't get any pictures geez!

That night Marcus and I rushed to the store to get some food for my cleanse before it snowed.  It was empty!  People clean out the stores when you know in Colorado that shits going to melt the next day!

Out east the weather is usually worse so we wanted to get home before the blizzard.  It didn't even start till 5am out here.

I would say we got about a foot and guess what?  Snow day again for me and Marcus BOO!

People think I'm crazy that I actually want to go to work....maybe I am lol

Hope everyone has a great Monday!

Pits, Peaks and Baseball

button

Linking up again for Pits and Peaks of the week!

Lesbehonest I have way more pits than peaks but I will spare you my tears!

Pits-

-I was off work all but two days this week. How can that be a pit you say? BOREDOM!! There is only so much cleaning, cooking, reading, working out and watching TV that can be done.

-My insomnia has gotten worse, oh how I miss sleeping!  No sleep makes this mama cranky!

-Is it a full moon? If you work in health care you know how fun those can be.  Today has been one of those days....quote of the day from one of our residents "God is up there jacking off while watching girls take their shirts off"  I can't make this stuff up!  Time for the hospital I would say!

-I found out my baseball boyfriend got married...
I'm not going to lie I may have cried alot a little.  Oh Cargo how could you cheat on me??

But...That reminds me of one of my peaks....

Peaks-

-Baseball season is almost here!  I even signed up for two fantasy teams today woohooo
Is it April yet??

-I have worked out every single day this week!! #operationredbikini here I come!  or #Milfby30 that works too!  I may have a hashtag problem:)

-Tonight a friend and I are celebrating Valentine's day with our kids! Meatballs, french fries and cheesecake yummy!!

-I get my niece tonight! Love that little energizer bunny!

-And last but not least we are having Anthony's pizza for lunch today....twice in one week!

It's Ok Thursday

Today I am linking up with Amber for It's Ok Thursday....
Its Ok Thursdays
It's ok... ....that I almost pissed myself driving to the airport in a blizzard last night.

....that I didn't go to work today because it will take me longer to drive there and back than to actually work.

....that I kept Marcus home because the icy roads scare the crap out of me!

....that I am excited for my Advocare cleanse to come...yeah I know who gets excited about a cleanse?? I just want to cure my insomnia!

....that I love innapropriate e-cards on pinterest.....

just kidding...judge away

I mean seriously, tell me that isn't funny??

....that I spent my last 14 dollars on a bottle of wine yesterday because I knew I would be stuck at home today and didn't want to do it without wine....#wineaholic

....that instagram has me thinking in hashtags...what's twitter again?

That is it for the day...off to workout...maybe! Happy Thursday!!

Pumpkin Steel Cut Oatmeal

I know it isn't fall anymore and honestly who cares??! Pumpkin should be eaten all year long!  I have a pumpkin obsession.  I put this recipe in my crock pot this morning and it smells so good I am contemplating eating it for dinner:)

Pumpkin Steel Cut Oatmeal
1 Cup Pumpkin
1 Cup Steel Cut Oats
2 Cups Vanilla Almond Milk (you can use any kind of milk or just water)
1 Cup Water
1 tsp Vanilla
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp allspice
1 tsp ginger
1/2 tsp cloves
Add sugar as needed

You can make this one of two ways.  The easy way is the crock pot, it takes about four hours on low.  Or you can make it on the stovetop.

If doing it in the crock pot just mix it all together and let it cook.

If doing it on the stove top make it like you would rice.  Bring to a boil then let it simmer till the liquid is gone.

That's it, easy and you can keep it in the fridge and heat it up with a tsp of milk everyday!  Breakfast for the week!

Gluten Free Turkey Sweet Potato Meatballs

Sounds like a mouthful hah?  A tasty one at least!  The sweet potato makes the meatballs really moist.  I am not a big sweet potato eater so usually it has to be paired with marshmallows and pineapple. So this was different but I ate some for lunch and they are so good!! And gluten free!!

GF Turkey Sweet Potato Meatballs

1/2 lb Turkey
1/2 Cup Rice Chex-Crushed(You can always use breadcrumbs)
1/2 cup Sweet Potato
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder (You can use real garlic and onion if you want)
1 tsp Chili powder
1 tsp pepper
1 tbsp parsley
1 Tbsp Parmesan
1 Tbsp Maple Syrup

Mix it all up, shape into balls and bake at 350 for 30 minutes. This made about 15 for me, feel free to double or triple.

Food Prep Tuesday

Happy Tuesday!  Or is it?? I only slept 3 hours last night then went to the gym and worked my butt off.  Then I came home to clean and do food prep for the week.  What was I thinking?? My eyes are closing at 1:45 in the afternoon.  Hello exhausted!! But guess what I didn't use no sleep as an excuse.  I still worked out and made sure I'm eating healthy this week! No excuses!!

When I start food prep I always make a list (Surprise, Surprise)
When planning it out I usually decide what needs to go in the oven and make that first.

I started out cooking spaghetti squash and sweet potatoes. In one casserole dish I put frozen chicken, fresh green beans and sweet potatoes with an italian seasoning packet over it.
While that was cooking I made the rest of the Spaghetti squash and turkey marinara bake and put that aside.  I then cut up cucumbers and separated them into sandwich bags.

I then made Pumpkin Steel Cut Oatmeal (recipe to come).  I put it in the crock pot, the crock pot is your friend!

After that I made the quinoa, rice and boiled eggs at the same time.  I always have quinoa, or brown rice in the fridge so that I can make a quick meal.

When the spaghetti squash and sweet potatoes were done I added the squash to the marinara bake, put it in the oven then made Gluten Free Turkey Sweet Potato Meatballs (recipe to come).

And finally I made some no bake energy bites, I know they weren't on my list but sometimes I get a wild hair up my ass and make other things.

All of this done in 2 hours and most of it was cooking time!  If I can do it so can you!!

5 for Five and Weekend Update

Let's start with the weekend!  To say I fell off the healthy bandwagon this weekend would be an understatement, complete with ALOT of beer, pizza, potato chips and pasta.  Do I regret it?  Absolutely not!  Ok except maybe the hangover yesterday....

Saturday I dropped the kid off with Grandpa and went to a place called Spellbound.  I'm sure you have heard of the Sip and Paint places by now? No? well find one and have a girls night.  I am a terrible painter but we had a blast anyway.
And then this happened.............
For those of you that know me, let's face it nobody I know in real life reads this blog lol Anyway I am a karaoke addict.  I LOVE to sing and am actually good at it.  So that's what we did afterward.  I can't actually remember how many blue moons I had, every time I would finish one another one would be put in front of me and you can't insult people when they buy you beer right??!!

I also got asked to be a bridesmaid in my friend's wedding!! Wooohooo!

Sunday wasn't pretty though...

So I ran that shit out!! I was really slow and almost threw up a couple times but did it anyway!! (With my new Brady Band)

I love the high school track and it was gorgeous outside, talk about spring fever!!!

Now on to the 5 for Five...

So What Wednesday

Today I am linking up with Shannon for So What Wednesday......

So What Wednesday

I have been in a mood today so this is perfect and may be more like who gives a shit Wednesday for me lol

So what......

......My blog's name is Books, Bills and Grocery Bags and I no longer want to write about any of that....well except food.  I will always be posting recipes because food makes the world go 'round.  Maybe I need a new name?

......That I'm too lazy to cut my child's hair until he starts to look like Billy Ray Cyrus.

......It just took my ancient laptop an hour to get online...oyyyyy

......That when I got to work today I almost murdered a couple people for not doing their job.

......My thighs are still sore from a cardio kickboxing class I took Monday.  That instructor tried to kill me.  Not to mention I scream every time I sit down to pee. (The people at work were probably entertained today)

......I had wine for dinner...again

......I ate a whole bag of hot cheetos today....320 calories of fatty deliciousness...so much for those 6 pack abs I want

......Did I mention I also had chocolate cake??

......Single Awareness Day is tomorrow....good thing I have something stronger than wine to drown my sorrows in...

......I tried a Dancing With the Stars Latin Cardio video tonight and I am a terrible Salsa dancer.

......I bought green tea tonight to try and kick my chai tea habit...hahahahahaha. It won't work but a girl has to try right??

......I could care less about lent (No offense Catholics)

......I want to refinish my furniture but am scared to death of messing it up.

......I have a TV addiction.....

......I have probably bored you by now....

......I went to the dollar store and stood in line for twenty minutes to buy three things because I went the day before Valentine's Day...what was I thinking??

....I'm boring myself lol

OK that is it for the day...

Brown Sugar Asparagus

I don't know about you but I LOVE asparagus.  It was on sale at Sprouts for 1.49 a lb this week,  say Whhhaaatttt?

Asparagus is usually so expensive I don't buy it but I wasn't passing it up. So I made our favorite Brown Sugar Asparagus. It is so good and easy peasy. Takes literally 3-5 minutes.

Brown Sugar Asparagus

20 asparagus spears with the thick ends cut off
1 Tbsp Brown Sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
1 Tbsp butter

Heat the butter in a pan on medium. When it is melted add the brown sugar, salt and pepper. Stir them around until the brown sugar is a glaze then add the asparagus.  Make sure and cover every part of the asparagus with the butter, brown sugar, salt and pepper mixture. Let it cook just long enough to get the asparagus warm, around 2-3 minutes. That's it! Asparagus is best crunchy so don't cook it too long. Enjoy!

5 For Five

I have been having a blog brain block so I thought linking up with people every week would get me out of it:)

Today I am linking up with Jenn and Jessica for 5 for Five.  This is setting five goals for the week and coming back the next week and reporting how you did.  I am a list freak so this link up called my name!  If I don't write things down they don't get done....wish I was kidding!  Oh and that whole crossing them off the list when they are done makes me happy:)

Pits and Peaks of the Week

Today I have decided to link up with Allie and Brin for Pits and Peaks of the week!  Seemed like a fun link up!

button

So here goes:

Pits

-I got Marcus' grades and they were NOT pretty.  Bummer that when he gets grounded it grounds me too!

-It is supposed to snow tomorrow BOO! I am not a cold weather girl at all!

Pinned Image

-I have a new addiction to hot cheetos...can't get enough of those things and it's really messing up my healthy eating.  Ok it's messing up me hoarding calories for my wine lol

-Speaking of....I am almost out of wine. Could have something to do with me drinking it for dinner last night.....

Pinned Image

-Ate Burger King for lunch yesterday and a big huge burrito the day before, work is keeping me from getting that 6 pack I want eek! (oh and those damn hot cheetos)

Now onto the good stuff:

Peaks

-I started the C25K on Saturday and have been kicking butt.  I ran a half mile without stopping, for all you professional runners this is BIG for me. I have ran 7 miles in the last week!! I'm going to be a runner yet!

-I lowered the price on my house.  This may seem like a Pit but if it gets my house sold it is a Peak!  Mama needs more money and to be closer to my family!

- My cousin is coming to stay with us this weekend and I can't wait.  Wine time! (Ok it's always wine time for me)

-I fixed my own freezer!  I thought about hiring a handy man but I am a badass and figured it out myself used Youtube to figure it out! Who needs a man??!!

-Started spring cleaning already....Who is ready for Spring?? I AM I AM!!

-Watched Season 2 of Covert Affairs.  If you haven't watched it it is really good!  Female spies are awesome!

That's it for today!  Hopefully next week I will have something much more interesting to share, I lead a boring life!  Happy Friday!

30 Day Ab Challenge-Update

30 days ago I started the 30 Day Ab Challenge (Ok a couple days late, forgive me)  I don't know what I was expecting exactly, just something better than the wine belly I had.  I wasn't expecting a 6 pack and over the 30 days I have looked at my stomach and said to myself "Nothing has changed, quit eating crap" lol

I was WRONG!  I took a before and after picture and maybe you can't tell but my tummy has gotten, tighter and toned.  Yayyyyy!  It is so great to look on the mirror and realize your hard work is paying off!

Can you tell the difference?? I can't wait to see what it looks like in another 30 days.

Confession I only did the 30 Day Ab Challenge maybe ten times.  Workouts bore the crap out of me so I have to mix it up constantly.  Regardless I saw results!

I can't decide if I should post this on instagram?  I know people in real life there and I don't know if they want to see my stomach lol

Mango Salsa

Oh mangos how I love thee! The girls at work call them "mongos" and it cracks me up!

I really wanted to make mango salsa.....just because and every recipe I found had a bunch of crap I didn't like so here I am making up my own. Why do I even look at recipes? I usually make whatever I feel like anyway.

Mango Salsa

2 medium mangos-peeled and chopped
1/2 of a Red Bell Pepper-diced
1/2 cucumber-diced
6 Cherry Tomatoes- cut into three pieces
1/4 jalapeno-diced
1/2 shredded carrot
1 TBSP Olive Oil
1 TBSP Rice Vinegar
1 tsp Cumin
1 Tbsp Lemon juice

Mix it all together.  We ate it over my Quinoa Crusted Tilapia. So yummy!

Stocking up-Shopping Trip

I know that so many people hate grocery shopping, I am not one of them!  I know you are thinking "This girl is crazy".  If people saved money like I did they would probably love it a little more.  I wasn't going to buy anything this month other than produce and dairy but when I saw the 10 for 10 deals King Soopers (Kroger) was having I wasn't passing it up.  Pasta for .49 cents??? You would be crazy not to stock up.  Here is what I bought:

Pace Picante Sauce-2
Hunts Tomato Sauce-Low sodium-5
Ragu Spaghetti Sauce-1
Cream of Chicken-98% fat free-3
Tomato sauce-2
Wheat Bread-1
Chicken Burgers-1
3 Cup and Noodles-the only unhealthy thing I bought (besides the .59 cents candy)
Jennie O Turkey Franks-2-Tasty
Oscar Meyer Carving Board Turkey-1
Greek Yogurt-1
Quaker Popped Mini Quakes-2
Cheez Its-Reduced Fat-2
Proforce Kids Yogurt-1
Ranch Dip-1
Wheat Pasta-8-3.92.....Who can beat that??

Guess how much this cost??  37.45 with 30 dollars in savings!

I took a friend with me and she also saved 30 dollars on her shopping trip, shopping with me is awesome;)

Parmesan, Walnut Spaghetti Squash

After doing an insanity workout tonight all I wanted to do was eat ...you know cheetos, cheez its, goldfish, pasta, or pizza.  Oh how I have been craving Anthony's pizza!  Instead I talked myself out of it and made something healthy and delicious.  It hit the spot without being 900 calories! This is only dinner for one, maybe two but you can always double and triple it. This is seriously easy if you have already cooked spaghetti squash in your fridge.  It took 5 minutes.

Parmesan, Walnut Spaghetti Squash

2 cups of cooked spaghetti squash
1/2 cup of ground chicken-you can use whatever meat you want or none at all
1/2 cup green beans-or any veggie you want
1 Tbsp Olive Oil
2 Tbsp Parmesan cheese
1 Tbsp Garlic Powder
1 Tbsp Onion Powder
1 tsp pepper
2 Tbsp Walnuts-optional-gives it some texture

If you don't have spaghetti squash already in your fridge cut it in half, scoop out the seeds, put face down on a pan and bake at 375 for 60-90 minutes.  Scrape out the insides.

If you do have some just heat it up with the meat you choose.  I am always prepared so I had some already cooked in the fridge. (Remember my posts about preparing ahead of time? yep this applies)  I used the microwave because it's fast.  Cook the veggie however you like and add it to the squash and meat.  Then add the rest of the ingredients.  Mix them up and devour.
